Arsenal crashed to their first defeat of the season on Saturday, as Mohamed Salah fired Liverpool to victory at Anfield.
The Egyptian produced a stunning display as he netted a brace, whilst Joel Matip also found the back of the net.
After the defeat, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been able to draw positives from his side’s performance.
Premier League review: Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal
Unai Emery: “I think we reduced the distance with Liverpool”
Last year, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool comfortably brushed the Gunners aside, winning 5-1 at Anfield.
However, this time around, it was a much closer encounter, according to Emery.
Arsenal enjoyed a number of good chances early on, and saw many positive glimpses from their new addition, Nicolas Pepe.
The Ivorian formed a good partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with their pace causing the Reds issues on the counter.
Pepe even became the first player to complete a dribble past Virgil van Dijk in 50 Premier League matches.

Emery lined his side up in a new-look diamond formation, which in some instances proved to be a success.
The Spanish manager left Anfield feeling positive, knowing that his side reduced the gap to Liverpool from last season.
“We need to be optimistic, but also confident.
“Each training, the next match, now we can show how we can be with the other teams.
“Really now I think we reduced the distance with Liverpool.
“I think over 90 minutes we reduced the distance than last year.
“But at the moment, it’s not enough, but I think we can be in some issues positive.”
Arsenal are “open” to letting Nacho Monreal leave
Emery has confirmed that the possibility of Nacho Monreal leaving Arsenal this summer is open.
With the transfer window closing in less than 2 weeks’ time across Europe, the Spaniard could still yet leave the Emirates.
The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to La Liga club Real Sociedad.
Speaking about Monreal leaving, Emery admitted:
“It’s one issue, we need to speak about it in the next few days because in Europe the transfer window hasn’t finished.
“With Nacho it’s that one possibility is open and we are going to speak about that.”
