Unai Emery gives Mesut Ozil future update after West Ham

West Ham 1 Arsenal 0

Arsenal travelled to West Ham on Saturday as they looked to close the gap on the top four.

Arsenal are also in danger of 6th place Manchester United catching up with them, so a win vs West Ham was vital.

The big talking point heading into the game with West Ham was the absence of Mesut Ozil from the matchday squad.

Ozil’s relationship with Unai Emery does not seem to be the best and the German has been left out several times this season, including vs West Ham.

This may have been a mistake on Emery’s part as Arsenal looked quite poor vs West Ham.

After Arsenal started well, West Ham would go on to dominate the game.

Declan Rice would eventually give West Ham the lead in the 47th minute and that is how the game finished.

Unai Emery on Ozil’s Arsenal future

Despite losing to West Ham, Emery has defended his decision to leave Ozil out and gave an update on his future.

Ozil has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this January.

One team said to be keen on Ozil is Serie A side, Inter Milan.

However, Emery has insisted that Arsenal cannot lose Ozil and he was only left out for tactical reasons:

“I decided that the players I have here were the best for this match. We have won with him [Ozil], we have lost with him, he is not one player that is for sale.

“We know we can’t lose him.

“I can say he is working this week normally

“I just said we have won and lost with him and today the players here were the players who deserved to be in this match and with them we can win, but we lost.”

Arsenal’s next game is a huge clash with 4th place Chelsea.
