Arsenal manager Unai Emery has made his admiration for Pep Guardiola clear, ahead of the two managers facing off on Super Sunday.
Emery’s Arsenal will take on defending Champions Man City, and the new Arsenal boss noted that they have faced off before – and was very humble when talking about their careers to date.
“I am 46, he is 47 and he started his career as a player, bigger than me,”Sky Sports report said Emery.
“His career as a coach is also bigger than mine.
“We started our careers as coaches at maybe the same kind of time and his career, statistically, is better than me also but I like more playing against him because it demands more from the preparation, to try to win against his teams.
“When we were in Spain each match against Barcelona with Valencia is very exciting and very demanding for me also to prepare this match.”
Big Premier League game
It’s a huge game for both sides as a Premier League opener, and it seems that Emery is already laying the groundwork for a Man City win – yet the humble approach may well work with his players.
To have a so called six-pointer so early in the season is a massive draw for the fans, and it would be a huge coup for new manager Emery if he did manage to take points off Man City, who of course managed to complete a 100-point season last time out.
City are also the favourites when it comes to defending their title, and Arsenal certainly have their work cut out for them.
