Unai Emery backs Arsenal’s Mustafi ahead of Wolves

Wolves vs Arsenal

Arsenal travel to Wolves on Wednesday evening in a key tie for both sides.

The Gunners start the day in 5th place but can move into a Champions League position with a win over Wolves.

They could also slip down to 6th should they lose and Manchester United beat Manchester City.

As for Wolves, they are currently in 10th spot but can move up to 7th place with a win vs Unai Emery’s side.

Wolves will also be full of confidence heading into this tie given their record against the top six.

Emery on Mustafi

Nuno Santo’s side have took points off all of the top teams this season, including two vs Arsenal when they drew 1-1 back in November.

As a result, Arsenal will need to be in top form when facing Wolves.

After another poor display vs Crystal Palace this past weekend, fans may have been hoping Shkodran Mustafi was out of Emery’s plans for a while.

However, the Spaniard has since come out and backed the German:

“Mustafi is a very good player, a very good centre-back. He has the habit of doing a tackle and going to ground, using his anticipation against the opposition.

“He can win one [tackle], win two, win three, win four. But if he loses one he is the picture and if we concede a goal he is the big picture. I have spoken to him: ‘you are young, you can improve and you need to work hard. Because you have a big quality for a centre-back.’

“For example, against Watford, he was the best of all the players, he won all the balls in the air with his head and that is a very good statistic for him. On Sunday against Christian Benteke it is more difficult to win every ball in the air but it was 50-50.”As quoted by the Telegraph.
