UK taxman catches up with Man United old boy Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay pays up

Memphis Depay is still paying for his disappointing move to Manchester United.

Literally.

After 18 months at Old Trafford, and having failed to break into the Man United first team, Dutch international Memphis left the Premier League for Lyon in January.

The Times are reporting on Wednesday, however, that Memphis has been tracked down by the UK taxman, as the Dutch international has been forced to settled a bill.

What’s the story?

Memphis imported a car during his time at Old Trafford, but he never paid the tax on his vehicle. The Times tell their readers the following:

Memphis Depay has been forced to pay a bill of around £20,000 for one of his sports cars after being chased down by the taxman.

It is understood that HMRC sent Depay two letters warning him that he had not paid the bill and threatening him with further action unless he settled the debt.

Depay made 53 appearance for the Red Devils, scoring seven goals.

Since joining Lyon, Memphis has made 17 appearances for the Ligue 1 side scoring five goals.
