‘Two years taking the piss’ – Spanish media tear into Eden Hazard after Real Madrid’s European exit

‘Two years taking the piss’ – Spanish media tear into Eden Hazard after Real Madrid’s European exit

A remarkable scene played out on Spanish TV on Wednesday evening, as the hosts of the popular El Chiringuito de Jugones took aim at Eden Hazard.

Werner & Mount on target

Belgian international Hazard was of course back in action a little less than 24 hours ago, as Real Madrid made the trip to Stamford Bridge for a Champions League showdown with Chelsea.

A spot in the competition’s finale was up for grabs in west London, with hosts Chelsea having boasted a narrow advantage ahead of kick-off, after notching an away goal in the Spanish capital last week.

This time around, though, Thomas Tuchel’s men made their dominance clear.

A stellar showing eventually saw the Blues emerge on the right side of a 2-0 scoreline, to book their spot in the Champions League showpiece for the first time since 2012.

Timo Werner opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge, before the dazzling Mason Mount made sure of Chelsea’s advancement with a 2nd five minutes from time:

‘You find it funny?’

As Chelsea march on, though, the inquest in Madrid is now well and truly underway.

A number of Los Blancos’ stars flattered to deceive on Wednesday night, amid a disappointing night all-round for the on-continent specialists.

None, though, has since been more widely singled out for criticism than big-money man Eden Hazard.

Ex-Chelsea standout Hazard was handed a rare start against his former club last night, after finally returning to full fitness on the back of a series of injury problems.

The 30-year-old, though, despite being handed something of a free role by Zinedine Zidane, struggled to have any sort of telling influence on proceedings.

In turn, when he was spotted laughing and joking with former teammate Kurt Zouma in the immediate aftermath of the final-whistle, it was never likely to go down too well with the Real faithful:

Some, though, have since taken their criticisms a touch too far.

As outlined above, during their post-match analysis session on Wednesday night, the hosts of Spanish programme El Chiringuito de Jugones made clear their frustrations with Hazard.

In an almost laughably dramatic scene, Josep Pedrerol, appearing from the darkness as a silhouette, and backed by daunting background music, can be seen rubbing his hands together, before launching into a remarkable tirade against his club’s struggling attacker.

Amongst the highlights include the following:

‘They have just knocked you out, and you find it funny? After Zidane gave you the opportunity, you did not deserve to start the game? You laugh at everyone…’

And this jab at Hazard’s fitness levels, featuring an altogether unnecessary added dig at Gareth Bale:

‘Hazard, two years taking the piss out of Madridismo. Two years. Kilos overweight. Unable to beat any defender. Many of you are saying, another Bale? Another Bale, that’s what we’ve got.’
