Michael Owen has claimed that no matter what Arsenal do, Alexis Sanchez will be leaving the club this summer and there’s little hope of him signing a new deal.
Not only does the BT Sport pundit think Alexis would leave for financial reasons, he also thinks that footballing reasons will dictate the decision, and that Arsenal simply aren’t good enough.
The Express report Owen was speaking after Arsenal’s win over Brighton and said: “If he’s in football and interested
in securing himself for the rest of his life financially, he’ll leave.
“If he’s interested in winning medals, then he’ll leave.
“There’s no way possible that he can stay in my eyes.
“No I don’t (see them back in the top four).
“I just don’t think they are good enough at the moment.
“I think they’re fifth, sixth, seventh. It will be one of those three places.
“At the start of the season I would have probably expected Everton to do better, so you would say there is a big seven maybe.
“But you would probably say Arsenal are fifth or sixth best at the minute.”
Another player who looks to be on his way out of Arsenal is Mesut Ozil, and while initially that may have been seen as a real blow to the club by the fans, given how Ozil has been of late in terms of his fitness and performances, it seems the club could well be thankful he didn’t pen another deal for more money.
There is an argument that Arsenal are actually better off without Ozil in the side, and it seems that even when he is fit and ready to play, it may be better to keep him on the bench and allow the likes of Iwobi, Lacazette and Alexis to flourish without him.
