Sixteen contenders revealed

The BBC tonight revealed the shortlist for the upcoming 2016 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The sixteen contenders will go forward to a vote on the night of the live show in Birmingham on Sunday, 18 December.

Bale & Vardy included

The two footballers included were Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

100/1 to lift the award, Jamie Vardy makes the shortlist despite a horrendous start to the 16/17 season and England’s woeful Euro 2016 campaign.

Having won Wimbledon and the Olymppics, World number one Andy Murray is a huge favourite to win the award for the third time in four years.
