Turkish reports claim Chelsea have closed deal for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir

Major claims emerging from Turkey this afternoon suggest that Chelsea have tied up an agreement with Trabzonspor for goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.

Kepa’s struggles

The situation between the posts has proven a major source of concern at Chelsea to this point in the campaign.

Up until February, Spanish shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga had stood as the Blues’ undisputed first-choice.

Having begun to justify his hefty price-tag with a string of superb displays towards the end of the 2018/19 campaign, Kepa was subsequently expected to kick on and stake his claim as one of world football’s finest goalkeepers.

However, this has since proven far from the case.

The 25-year-old, much like fellow countryman David de Gea at Manchester United, has often looked a weak link for his side this season.

In fact, so frequent were Kepa’s mistake-riddled displays over the months leading up to the turn of the year, that they even resulted in him losing his place in Chelsea’s starting XI to veteran Willy Caballero for several weeks.

Highlighting the woes of the former Athletic Bilbao man, meanwhile, was the statistic that, as of January, he was the owner of the worst save percentage of any Premier League goalkeeper in 2019/20.

Cakir deal struck?

Kepa’s struggles, meanwhile, have inevitably seen speculation begin to circulate that he could be on the move this summer.

Valencia, Sevilla and more have been tipped as potential landing spots for the Spaniard, with a two-year loan move to the former having even been touted.

And, if the aforementioned speculation emerging from Europe this afternoon is to be believed, then Chelsea have not only lined up Kepa’s replacement, but have in fact already clinched a deal for his signature.

The news comes courtesy of Turkish outlet Haber365.

In something of a bolt-from-the-blue, it is claimed that the Blues have reached an agreement with Trabzonspor for Ugurcan Cakir.

24-year-old Turkish international Cakir has enjoyed a stellar 2019/20, playing a key role in his side’s charge to 2nd in the Super Lig table.

Haber365, though, assure that he is set to depart the Şenol Güneş Stadium this summer, after Chelsea agreed to fork over €33 million to take Cakir to London.

The personal terms of a contract are also said to have been decided upon, with an announcement, if such claims prove accurate, likely to be forthcoming imminently.
