Troy Deeney confirms his knee injury after Newcastle but he expects to play vs West Ham

Watford 2 – Newcastle 1

It’s now two wins in a row for Watford.

After Danny Welbeck scored a magical overhead volley to down Norwich, Watford captain Troy Deeney was the hero for the Hornets against Newcastle on Saturday.

Deeney scored twice for Watford. Both goals came from the penalty spot.

Newcastle took the lead through Dwight Gayle in the 23rd minute from a corner.

Watford levelled in the 52nd minute after Kiko Femenia was fouled in the box.

Deeney won the match in the 82nd minute after Ismaila Sarr went down in the Newcastle box.

Next up for Watford in another relegation six-pointer against West Ham.

West Ham were also big winners on Saturday as they beat Norwich 4-0 at Carrow Road.

On Sunday, both Watford and West Ham are 6-points clear of bottom-three sides Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Speaking after the Newcastle match, Watford’s match-winner Troy Deeney confirmed he’s been playing with a knee injury recently, however despite his ongoing problem he expects to play against the Irons. Deeney said:

I am always my harshest critic and that is why nothing anyone says can ever get to me, but as you can see I have been struggling with my knee for the last few weeks.

I’m trying to be there for the lads and to crack it out. There is no time for excuses so get it done and we’ll sort the knee out at a later date.

My knee has been playing up for a while so after this (game) I will have it drained and injected. For someone scared of needles it will be good fun.

We have a big game next Friday against West Ham. We have to win that and go on to the next one.
