Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed how his boss Jurgen Klopp broke the news that he was included in England’s squad for the World Cup.
The 19-year-old was one of the shock inclusions in the squad announced this morning.
Though, it is certainly justified after the player impressed in both the Premier League and especially in the Champions League.
His solid performances against some of the best players in the world at such a young age only benefitted his case.
Now, the player has revealed that his boss was given the opportunity to tell his player.
Safe to say, it was certainly unexpected and Klopp made sure that it wasn’t a straightforward admission!
‘It was an unbelievable moment to find out I was going to go to the World Cup, especially at a young age. It’s probably capped off a really good season for me,’ he explained to Liverpool’s club website.
‘I found out (on Wednesday) morning, just before we came out to Marbella. The manager came and spoke to me just as we were getting on the plane.
‘He asked me if I knew anything about the squad or anything yet. I said, “No” and he said, “Have you got anything planned around the time of the World Cup?” I was like, “No, no holidays or anything…”‘
He said to me, “OK, good… You’re in the squad!” It was a really proud moment. On England’s behalf, it was nice of them to let the manager tell me.’
19 year old Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be called up to England’s 23 man World Cup squad.
Just over a year ago he made his debut for Liverpool, he plays in a Champions League final in 10 days & is now going to the World Cup.
