Wolves secure first summer signing as Bruno Lage era begins

Wolverhampton Wanderers have, on Thursday, announced the club’s first signing of the summer – Yerson Mosquera.

Nuno out/Bruno in

The 2021/22 campaign will represent one of change at Molineux.

This comes with long-time boss Nuno Espirito Santo having opted to depart the West Midlands, on the back of an apparent falling out with the club’s owners.

The Portuguese is said to have been left dismayed by Wolves’ transfer prospects ahead of next season, with the rift, in the end, having proven too sizable to overcome.

Those in a position of power at Molineux, though, wasted little time mourning the departure of the man who guided them back to the Premier League, and even into Europe.

Last week, Wolves confirmed that ex-Benfica boss Bruno Lage, a fellow countryman of Nuno, had been chosen as the man to guide the club into an exciting new era.

The 45-year-old, a free agent since 2020, put pen to paper on a 3-year deal in the West Midlands.

Mosquera arrives

And, as outlined above, on Thursday, Lage’s first move towards shaping his squad for the 2021/22 campaign has been revealed.

As per an announcement across the club’s social media platforms, Wolves have secured the signing of highly-regarded Yerson Mosquera, for a fee in the region of £4.5 million.

The 20-year-old, who joins from Atletico Nacional in his home country of Colombia, is described as ‘a centre-back who’s very athletic, very aggressive, very competitive and has a great attitude to defending.’

According to Wolves technical director Scott Sellars, Mosquera ‘wants to defend, he wants to make tackles and headers, and has great presence in both boxes, but he’s also very good technically and very composed on the ball.’

The young stopper has put pen to paper on a deal through 2026.
