The day after Newcastle officially unveiled Steve McClaren as their new manager, the Magpies appear ready to make their first move in the summer transfer market.
Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad have today reported that Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost has had talks with Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren over a transfer.
The 26-year-old is also being chased by other Premier League clubs (unfortunately the identity of those clubs are not revealed), however Newcastle’s interest is billed as the most “concrete” by Algemeen Dagblad.
2014-15 was a breakout season for Bas Dost, as the Dutch international scored 20 goals for Wolfsburg.
Dost also scored one of the goals in Wolfsburg’s 3-1 German Cup win over Borussia Dortmund.
Moreover, Bas Dost topped the European conversion charts with 16 Bundesliga goals from a total of just 39 shots.
One would assume Dos would be an excellent signing for the Magpies, particularly considering that the Toon only scored 40 goals in the entire 2014-15 Premier League season.
