Wojciech Szczesny joins Juventus
Wojciech Szczesny was unveiled as a Juventus player on Wednesday and made it very clear that his heart still lies with Arsenal.
The Pole in goal has impressed at Roma over the past two seasons and has been brought in by the Old Lady to learn from and then take over from Gianluigi Buffon.
Many Arsenal fans wondered why Szczesny is good enough for Champions League finalists Juventus but not the Gunners.
On the flip side, Emiliano Martinez showed his qualities in the Arsenal goal as the hero of the penalty shoot-out win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
“Once a Gunner, always a Gunner!”
On completion of his move, Wojciech Szczesny posted a heartfelt tribute to Arsenal on Instagram after 11 years at the club.
Wojciech Szczesny pointed out how he had grown as a footballer at Arsenal and wrote about his friendship with Jack Wilshere.
Szczesny tears up during Juventus presser
During his Juventus unveiling, Szczesny was asked if he had any regrets over his career at Arsenal.
Initially, Szczesny started answering the question in English, saying: “It’s a difficult question… I spent 11 years…”
From there we don’t hear much from the new Juventus goalkeeper on his time at Arsenal as he comes close to crying.
Szczesny asks for one minute to compose himself and then answers a different question.
“I want to win trophies”
Amongst the things Szczesny did come out with, he told the Italian press: “I believe in myself and I am ready for this challenge. I wanted to take a step up in my career and Juventus is the biggest step I could take.”
Szczesny added: “I saw [Massimiliano] Allegri this morning, I saw him for 15 seconds because I was training in the gym. I am not 20 anymore, I am 27 and I want to win trophies. This club only want to win, that’s the mentality of this club and that’s why [I was pushed to leave Arsenal and Roma].”
