Why Manchester City believe they have ‘edge’ in Darwin Nunez hunt, Sergi Roberto monitored

Two transfer updates concerning Manchester City have emerged online this weekend.

Darwin Nunez eyed by City

The first concerns Benfica forward, Darwin Nunez.

Nunez is currently plying his trade in Portugal’s top-flight with Benfica, whom he signed for in September of 2020 for a fee reported to be around £21.6m.

Since his move to Benfica, the striker has featured on 51 occasions for the Portuguese powerhouse.

Across these outings he has scored 20 and provided 12 assists, a fairly solid record.

Though a striker by trade, Nunez can also play on the left-wing, something he has done on several occasions so far this term – scoring six in seven for Benfica in all competitions.

And now, the 22-year-old’s fine start to 2021/22 appears to have piqued interest from a number of top European sides.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester City believe they have the edge in the transfer hunt for the Benfica striker.

The report adds that Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all interested in the Uruguayan, but City are convinced that they will have the first shot at signing Nunez thanks to their superb relationship with Benfica.

Both Ruben Dias and Ederson were brought to the Etihad from Lisbon in recent years.

Nunez is currently contracted to Benfica until 2025.

Man City monitoring Sergi Roberto

Elsewhere, reports stemming from Italy have credited Manchester City with an interest in Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto.

Roberto is out of contract at the Camp Nou at the end of the season, meaning he can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January.

And, according to Calciomercato, the versatile defender’s situation at Barcelona is not going unnoticed in England. City are said to be among a number of clubs currently following the developments.
