Why Chelsea are unlikely to sign Aubameyang & Gordan this summer

Wesley Fofana may be Chelsea’s final signing of the 2022 summer transfer window.

The centre-back all but confirmed he was leaving Leicester City on social media over the weekend and a medical is now expected to be completed this week.

However, once Fofana signs, Chelsea may be done in the market for the summer. This comes despite it being claimed that the Blues were interested in signing FC Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Anthony Gordon from Everton.

But why are Chelsea not set to sign these players? Just one day ago it was alleged that Chelsea were offering Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja and £25m for Anthony.

But now, according to The Athletic, Chelsea are having second thoughts about signing Aubameyang from Barcelona. Chelsea made a proposal worth £15m to sign the former Arsenal striker earlier this month but have not yet reached an agreement with Barcelona or personal terms with the player.

It is added that there are question marks over the value of the proposed deal given Aubameyang is 33 and will expect a high salary, which Chelsea would want to include performance incentives.

Meanwhile, the chances of Everton’s Anthony Gordon completing a move to Stamford Bridge are now thought to be slim, with sources pointing to a substantial gulf in valuation between Chelsea and Everton.

On the outgoing front, The Athletic report that Conor Gallagher and Christian Pulisic are expected to stay at Chelsea, barring a bid for either player that is too good to refuse. While Armando Broja is regarded by the new ownership in west London as one of Europe’s best young strikers, which looks set to result in him being given first-team opportunities.
