This comes after David Moyes and co. identified the Brazilian international, fresh off a campaign which saw him directly contribute to 18 goals across all competitions, as the club’s first-choice target.

In turn, the powers that be in east London have agreed to splash out, with an agreement now in place with Olympique Lyonnais for a fee in the region of £52.6 million – a West Ham club record.
