West Ham’s shock move for Southampton old-boy Graziano Pelle

West Ham & Graziano Pelle

Could former Southampton striker Graziano Pelle be on his way back to the Premier League?

According to Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, West Ham could be about to sign the Italian centre-forward.

In a short update late on Saturday night, Di Marzio’s website reported:

West Ham want to bring Graziano Pellè back in the Premier League. Shandong Luneng… (are) trying to find an agreement on the wages.

Money looks like being a huge problem for West Ham. Graziano Pelle is supposedly on 16 million euros a season in China.

Surely the Hammers will not pay those wages for a 32-year-old? Pelle will have to take a significant pay cut to make the deal happen.

Pelle has scored seven goals with five assists in 26 competitive games for the Chinese club.

West Ham’s injury crisis

With that said, the Irons are in need of new recruits with just a few days left in the January window.

Even before Saturday’s FA Cup loss at Wigan, West Ham had terrible selection problems.

Marko Arnautovicis out for three weeks with a hamstring problem. Manuel Lanzini has also picked up a hamstring injury, and he’s out for six weeks.

Andy Carroll needs an ankle operation that is likely to keep him out for three months.

The Irons are also missing Diafra Sakho, Michail Antonio, Edimilson Fernandes, Jose Fonte and Winston Reid.

While Pedro Obiang was taken off on a stretcher against Wigan.
