West Ham confirm bargain Craig Dawson signing

West Ham confirm bargain Craig Dawson signing

West Ham United have this evening confirmed that loan addition Craig Dawson has officially joined the club on a permanent basis.

Irons stint

Central defender Dawson of course made the move to the London Stadium back in October, in something of a surprise deal.

The swoop, at the time, was not exactly welcomed by the West Ham faithful, with the 30-year-old’s previous experience in the Premier League having not exactly seen him inspire confidence.

To this point, however, to say that Dawson has gone about proving his doubters wrong would be an understatement.

The no-nonsense stopper has quickly established himself as a key figure in David Moyes’ backline in the capital, playing a starring role as the Hammers continue to defy the odds in pushing for a Champions League berth.

All told, Dawson has notched 17 appearances across all competitions since October, even chipping in with four goals in the process.

Staying put

And, as outlined above, such stellar exploits have today proven enough to secure Dawson a spot at the London Stadium beyond the summer.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, West Ham confirmed that they have come to the decision to make their on loan defender’s arrival permanent ahead of next season.

Dawson has put pen to paper on a deal through 2023, with parent club Watford set to receive a measly £2 million, in addition to the £1m secured for their now ex-star’s loan.

Speaking on the back of his signing being made official this evening, Dawson had the following to say:

‘Coming to West Ham has been a great move for myself, and it is a privilege to play for a Club with such rooted traditions.’

‘The squad has a real togetherness, team spirit and great quality. I’m excited for what my future at the Club may hold and the potential for what we as a Club can go on to achieve.’
