West Brom set asking price for Manchester United-linked Sam Johnstone

West Brom set asking price for Manchester United-linked Sam Johnstone

An update on the future of West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has emerged on Tuesday.

West Brom to be relegated

West Brom of course secured a return to the Premier League last summer.

However, the Baggies (though not yet confirmed) are now almost certainly set for a swift return to the Championship.

After a 1-1 draw with Wolves on Monday, Sam Allardyce’s men sit 10 points from safety, with just four games left to play – meaning their relegation is likely to be confirmed this weekend.

West Brom want £20m for Sam Johnstone

When a side is sent packing to the Championship, there are generally a number of players whom fellow Premier League clubs go on to express an interest in.

West Brom do not boast an awful lot of target-worthy options as things stand, but perhaps the most obvious comes in the form of Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone signed for the Baggies from Manchester United in 2018, and was essential in the Midlands-based outfit securing promotion to the Premier League.

Now, though, with the reality of relegation setting in, it appears that West Brom have opened to parting with the shot-stopper, for the right price.

As per the Telegraph, the board at the Hawthorns are set to demand £20m for Johnstone, if they are relegated from the Premier League.

In terms of potential suitors, Manchester United were linked with the goalkeeper in April.

The Telegraph’s report, meanwhile, suggests that Johnstone has emerged as a target for Tottenham and West Ham, whilst Man United are also considering a move for their former player, amid growing uncertainty surrounding the future of David de Gea ahead of next season.
