Liverpool v Tottenham

Liverpool and Tottenham: The battle for German wonderkid

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head-to-head for the signature of Werder Bremen’s 17-year-old attacking midfielder David Philipp, according to Sky Deutschland.

German Wonderkid

The 17-year-old Bremen midfielder is seen as one of the Bundesliga’s hottest young properties.

The German has featured for Werder Bremen’s youth sides but is yet to have broken into the club’s first-team.

Last season, at under-17 level he notched an impressive 39 goals and assists.

It is understood that the mercurial talent is on the verge of breaking into Germany under 19’s international side.

Enquiries made

David Philipp has impressed enough to have seen Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham make enquiries.

Tottenham and Liverpool’s interest is backed up by the comments of a man closely connected to David Philipp.

Werder Bremen academy director Bjorn Schierenbeck said:

“I wouldn’t want to rule out the interest in David from the English clubs.”

But I don’t know exactly how firm it is. We would be very eager to continue working together with David.

We have already held talks with him, and explained what his future career with Werder can look like.”

The move is made even more likely given the fact that the German is out of contract with Werder Bremen in the summer.

The German’s will offer Philipp a new contract and are desperate to keep him.

Meanwhile, interest from a big club like Liverpool, with a German manager in Jurgen Klopp, and then with Spurs’ brilliant track-record for developing young players – this could well turn the player’s head.

With the player soon out of contract, this could leave some gaining an incredible bargain for the player.

David Philipp could either leave for a cut-price in January or for nothing next summer, should he decide to leave.
