Pochettino “perfect” for Barkley
Ross Barkley has one year left on his current contract and manager Ronald Koeman has admitted he expects Barkley to leave Everton.
Chelsea have also been strongly linked with Barkley along with Tottenham.
However, Anderton believes that Tottenham is the best place for Barkley.
“I think Ross Barkley will still sign for Tottenham despite other interest.
I think the comments from Ronald Koeman were strange, Ross Barkley is a fantastic player, but I think he needs a manager that will love him and improve his game, like Pochettino, and coming to Tottenham will be the perfect pillar for him.”
Breaking into starting eleven
Darren Anderton believes that at present, Barkley wouldn’t get into Spurs’ starting eleven.
Barkley would be competing with the likes of Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli for a place in the starting lineup:
“However, with the current setup, Ross will struggle to get into the team.
I think if Barkley comes he’ll want some reassurance that he’ll be playing, but for me, I don’t know how you can change that front three of Kane, Alli and Eriksen – it’s arguably the best front three in the league.”
Offer this week
Tottenham were expected to make an offer for the midfielder this week.
The North London club’s offer was believed to be £20m plus £8m in add-ons.
The 23-year-old has been ruled out of action for three months with a hamstring injury, throwing the transfer into some doubt.
Injury and his reluctance to sign a new contract has meant that Everton have had to reduce their original £50m asking price for the England international.
