Tottenham boost as centre-back available for cut-price fee this summer

Tottenham have been linked with Inter Milan and Netherlands star Stefan de Vrij recently.

One of the main areas Antonio Conte and co. are likely going to need to address in the near future is centre-back.

The Italian does currently have enough bodies to operate with a three-man defence. But, outside of Cristian Romero – who excelled in a back-three for Atalanta – the Lilywhites do not have that much quality at the back.

Japhet Tanganga still has the potential to turn into top-quality centre-back, but Conte is likely to demand more instant success, rather than waiting two to three years for players to develop.

So, it would make sense for Spurs to target Stefan de Vrij. The 30-year-old has plenty of experience and already knows Conte well, as he was a key member of the Inter side that won the league last year.

The Inter stopper is currently only under contract at the San Siro until 2023, meaning he will have just one year left on his deal come the summer.

De Vrij joined Inter Milan on a free transfer from Lazio in 2018, and has since become a mainstay in their backline, featuring in over 150 matches.

De Vrij available on the cheap

Now, it appears as though De Vrij will be available for a cut-price fee this summer.

According to reports stemming from Football Insider, De Vrij has been told he can leave Inter Milan for just £15m this summer.

And whilst De Vrij is already 30 years of age, Tottenham could probably do with some more experience in their backline to help achieve success at a quicker rate.
