Man City & Barcelona
Is Pep Guardiola set to go shopping in Barcelona?
And if he lands his target, is this the final piece of the jigsaw for Man City to go on a win the Premier League title?
Looking at Man City’s activity in the summer window, one thing has been crystal clear; it’s a priority for Guardiola that City’s defence is massively improved for the upcoming season.
The Sky Blues have shelled out enormous sums of money of trying to rebuild their backline this summer. Kyle Walker has joined from Spurs, Danilo signed from Real Madrid, Benjamin Mendy has switched from Monaco, while Ederson is the club’s new number one.
And according to reports out of Spain, City are now trying to poach Sergio Busquets from Barca.
What’s the story?
Spanish radio station Onda Cero have announced on social media that Man City have reached out to Barca to find out about the possible availability of Busquets.

Busquets, a vastly experienced 29-year-old deep-lying midfielder, has been with Barcelona for his whole career to date, having come up through the club’s youth system, making his debut in 2008.
He has long been regarded as one of world football’s finest midfielders, with the 97-time capped Spanish international having added a defensive tenacity to his world-class abilities on the ball over recent years.
Most would subscribe to the opinion that Busquets is an upgrade on City’s current centre-mid options including Fernandinho and Yaya Toure.
Will the deal happen?
Guardiola also expressed an interest in Busquets last summer, though any advances were quickly rebuffed by the Blaugrana hierarchy.
A similar response is expected this summer, though the questionable atmosphere surrounding the Camp Nou at present following the departure of Neymar means the Citizens maintain a shred of hope in their lengthy quest to sign a world-class midfielder.
For the record, Busquets is under contract at the Camp Nou until 2021.
