Timo Werner reportedly rejected Pep Guardiola & Man City to join Chelsea

Word stemming from the German media this evening suggests that Timo Werner knocked back the advances of Manchester City to make the move to Chelsea this summer.

Blues switch

Following weeks of rampant speculation, Werner’s Stamford Bridge switch was of course finally made official on the 18th of June.

On the back of another scintillating season in Germany, during which the versatile attacker racked up 34 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, Chelsea stumped up the required £47 million to activate Werner’s RB Leipzig release clause.

And the 24-year-old certainly didn’t take long to provide fans of his new club with a glimpse of what he is set to bring to the table over the seasons to come, after finding the net just 4 minutes into his Chelsea bow last weekend:

City rejected?

As such, ahead of the Premier League campaign getting underway in a little over a weeks’ time, the Chelsea faithful have understandably begun to express their excitement regarding Werner’s potential impact.

Others, though, have been left to consider what might have been.

Before sealing a move to southwest London, the in-demand Werner was actually widely expected to join Liverpool.

The Reds were long linked with a swoop for the German international, with Jurgen Klopp having evidently viewed the Leipzig standout as the ideal man to reinforce all 3 positions in his frontline.

In the end, though, obviously, an Anfield switch failed to come to fruition.

And, as outlined above, if the latest word stemming from Germany this evening is to be believed, then Liverpool were not the only other Premier League club whom Werner could have joined this summer.

In a post across his social media accounts a short time ago, transfer expert Christian Falk of SportBild revealed that, Jurgen Klopp aside, Chelsea’s new hitman rebuffed the approaches of another tactician in England ahead of next season:

Then, in a follow-up Tweet minutes later, Falk went on to reveal the identity of the manager in question: Pep Guardiola:
