Timely Edouard Mendy update surfaces following Kepa’s latest Chelsea blunder

An update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been forthcoming online this evening, amid fresh widespread criticism of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Blues downed

Frank Lampard’s men welcomed Liverpool to Stamford Bridge a short time ago, for a Premier League clash.

The matchup marked Chelsea’s 2nd of the campaign, following a 3-1 victory at Brighton last weekend.

Liverpool, meanwhile, had also bagged all 3 points in their season opener, albeit just, in a 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield.

When all was said and done in south west London a short time ago, though, the English champions nevertheless proved too much for their hosts, to make it 2 wins from 2 to start out their title defence.

Sadio Mane proved the star of the show, bagging both goals within the space of 5 minutes shortly after the interval.

The first saw the Senegalese attacker get on the end of a wonderful team move, nodding home Roberto Firmino’s delivery in superb fashion.

Mane’s brace, though, came following the latest in an increasingly concerning string of mistakes on the part of the aforementioned Kepa Arrizabalaga.

After the ball made its way back to the Spaniard in the hosts’ goal, Kepa dallied, before misplacing his ensuing pass directly onto the foot of the closing Mane, who went on to finish with ease:

Mendy incoming

As such, following the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge, the majority of the focus has once again centered on Kepa.

This comes despite Jorginho having missed a spot-kick which could well have sparked a Chelsea comeback, and Andreas Christensen’s first-half dismissal.

But, as outlined above, if the latest word stemming from the media over the last couple of hours is to be believed, then Blues fans will likely not be forced to watch Kepa take to the pitch in the club’s colours for too much longer.

This comes with a new shot-stopper set to imminently link up with Frank Lampard’s squad.

As confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rennes star Edouard Mendy’s Stamford Bridge switch is ‘100% done’, with an announcement set to arrive over the course of the coming week:
