The latest on Chelsea’s defensive pecking order following Thiago Silva arrival

An insight into the potential ramifications of Thiago Silva’s move to Chelsea has been forthcoming online this evening.

Blues’ latest addition

Chelsea’s staggering recruitment drive continued earlier today.

The last 48 hours alone saw the capital giants secure the services of both Leicester City star Ben Chilwell, and free agent defender Malang Sarr.

This of course followed the arrivals of attackers Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner prior to the summer transfer window even opening for business.

Bayer Leverkusen standout Kai Havertz, meanwhile, is expected to follow suit in short order, as Frank Lampard and co. continue their efforts to build a squad capable of challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for Premier League supremacy.

And, as outlined above, the latest step towards doing just that was confirmed a short time ago.

In an official announcement across the club’s social media platforms, Chelsea announced the signing of veteran Brazilian international Thiago Silva.

The 35-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with PSG, with Silva having put pen-to-paper on a 1-year deal, with the option for a 2nd.

Tomori out?

Silva’s arrival in southwest London, though, while an unquestionable boost for Frank Lampard, has also created something of a defensive dilemma for the Chelsea boss.

The Blues’ latest signing is widely expected to secure an immediate starting berth for himself, leaving a quartet of others, in the form of Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori, to battle it out to partner Silva.

As such, it appears highly likely that one of the 4 aforementioned stoppers will be moved on over the coming weeks.

And, as per a report from Chelsea FC News of, it is Tomori who, as things stand, looks the odd man out.

The 22-year-old’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge, though, is not in doubt.

Instead, Tomori is expected to be farmed out on loan for the 2020/21 campaign, ahead of returning to his parent club with further first-team experience to his name.

Everton and Fulham, meanwhile, are tipped as potential landing spots.
