Arsenal have been chasing Declan Rice for over a month now. Speculation over a transfer began to ramp up before the Europa Conference League final and it was expected that when that was over, the Gunners would move swiftly for Rice.
However, that has not been the case. Arsenal made a £75m bid for the Hammers captain with £15m in add-ons, which was rejected by the London club.
This was followed by Manchester City lodging their interest. The Premier League champions made a formal offer of an initial £80m with an extra £10m in add-ons in hope of beating Arsenal to his signature this summer.
That bid was also rejected by David Moyes and co. Then, on Tuesday evening, the Gunners submitted a club and British record bid for the West Ham midfielder of £100m plus £5m in add-ons, according to The Athletic.
Now, it has been reported by The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg that the Hammers, whilst not rejecting Arsenal’s second bid out of hand, have not accepted it because of the payment structure that Arsenal are trying to impose.
