The fee Manchester United have ‘set aside’ for January window revealed

Man United’s January budget

Manchester United had a fairly active summer transfer window which saw two key positions strengthened.

Jadon Sancho was signed from Borussia Dortmund to add a natural, experienced right-winger to the Red Devils’ ranks.

Sancho had been tearing up the Bundesliga over the last couple of years and, as a result, is reported to have set The Red Devils back £73m.

Elsewhere, in a major coup, Man United were able to strengthen their centre-back spot by adding World Cup and Champions League winner, Raphael Varane.

Harry Maguire had, for too long, stood as United’s only top-quality centre-back option, but Varane has since added a new element of experience and winning mentality.

And finally, Man United would bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, over a decade after his last spell at the club.

So, with a fairly busy summer under their belt, Man United fans were probably not expecting their side to have much money available for the January transfer window.

However, the Daily Star have reported that:

Manchester United have set aside £70million for the next transfer window.

It is added that the money in question will be made available to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if it is felt as though United are in a position to sustain a genuine title challenge.

Where do Man United need to improve?

Should the money indeed become available, it is pretty obvious where Man United should spend that sum.

Of course, the Reds should be looking to bring in a proper defensive midfielder as their next marquee signing.

It has been discussed to death at this point, but it is clear that none of Man United’s current central midfielders can work alongside Paul Pogba in a midfield pivot.

The pairing of Scott McTominay and Fred, meanwhile, though more defensively sound than when Pogba is present, is still not good enough for a title-challenging Premier League side.
