Atletico Madrid’s links with Cristiano Ronaldo have been slammed by fans of the Spanish club, who have now released a statement about the prospective signing.
Ronaldo is keen to leave Manchester United this summer, and as major club after major club have ruled themselves out, links with his former Madrid rivals have only intensified.
However, the fans are not happy. First, #ContraCR7 trended on social media, and now the club’s official fan group have released an official statement.
‘Given the possibility that the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo is more than just a rumour we express our absolute rejection of any hypothetical incorporation into our club’, they wrote.
‘The aforementioned player represents the antithesis of the values that are the hallmarks of our Atleti, such as effort, generosity, simplicity and humility.
‘Even in the unlikely event that a player in decline such as Cristiano Ronaldo could secure a title; we would not accept his signing.

Meanwhile, match-going fans held up anti-Cristiano Ronaldo banners during Simeone’s pre-season clash with Numancia, further highlighting beyond any doubt the point that they are trying to make.

Will Ronaldo join?
While speculation continues to swirl around the future of the veteran striker, it seems as though the Atletico fans will have their wish.
Speaking to Spanish media, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo told reporters: “I don’t know who invented this story about Cristiano Ronaldo to Atletico Madrid. It’s definitely not true”
“It’s practically impossible for him to come to Atletico de Madrid”
Should he be taken at his word, it would mean that another club in the Champions League have now turned down CR7, following in the wake of Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
