Stoke’s Roy Keane & Martin O’Neill move before Man United

Man United vs Stoke

The final match in round 23 of the Premier League is at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Manchester United take on Stoke City in a match that looks like a definite home win.

Stoke are in a terrible place right now.

Last weekend they were dumped out the FA Cup at Coventry City. That proved the final straw for manager Mark Hughes at the Bet365 Stadium.

Stoke are third bottom of the EPL with 20 points from 22 games. They are on a three match losing streak, and it’s hard to see how they beat the drop right now.

At the same time Man United have won their first two games in 2018 as they aim to finish the year as runners-up.

Roy Keane & Martin O’Neill

The big news for Stoke on Thursday morning is that Roy Keane and Martin O’Neill could be in charge of the Potters for the Man United game.

What’s certain is that O’Neill is in talks with Stoke about their managerial vacancy. The parties met last night to discuss a possible deal. As reported in the Times:

Roy Keane could return to the Premier League if Martin O’Neill takes charge at Stoke City. The Ireland manager has moved a step closer to replacing Mark Hughes, and Keane, his assistant, would join him.

Although the Football Association of Ireland said yesterday that they had not received any approach from Stoke, the fact that O’Neill is officially out of contract meant neither the club nor O’Neill were obliged to notify the association.

Former Watford boss Quique Flores is another name in the frame for Stoke if O’Neill proves unattainable.
