Southampton eyeing potential move for Tottenham’s Harry Winks

Southampton eyeing potential move for Tottenham’s Harry Winks

A recent report from England has linked Southampton with Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks.

Winks out of favour

It is fair to say that Harry Winks has not had the greatest campaign to date.

The 25-year-old featured fairly heavily in north London last season.

However, it now appears as though all of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sit ahead of Winks in Jose Mourinho’s midfield pecking order.

So far this term, Winks has featured in the Premier League on just 10 occasions, notching 90 minutes of action in only three of those outings.

The English international was handed more chances to impress in Europe. But with the Lilywhites having now crashed out of the Europa League, it is hard to see Winks playing too much more this season.

Southampton linked with Harry Winks

So, if Jose Mourinho remains in charge of Spurs beyond the summer, a departure for Winks looks a realistic possibility.

The midfielder was last linked with an exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the winter window, when Spanish outfit Valencia were named as a potentially interested party.

No move, in the end, was forthcoming, but talk of a Spurs exit for Winks has now resurfaced this week.

According to Football Insider, Southampton are keeping tabs on the 25-year-old ahead of the summer.

FI go on to speculate that Tottenham could cash in on Winks to help fund a move for RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer, whom it is claimed the capital giants are laying the groundwork for.

No potential fee is mentioned in the report. But, given the fact that he is 25, English and under contract until 2024, it is hard to envision Daniel Levy allowing Winks to depart on the cheap.
