Saints stop Leicester & Everton’s James Maddison deals

Everyone wants Norwich’s James Maddison

One of the players in hot-demand this summer is Norwich City midfielder James Maddison.

Maddison is a product of the Coventry City academy. He made his Coventry debut in 2014, going on to make 42 appearances for the club.

Maddison moved to Norwich in February of 2016 for £2.4 million.

Since signing for Norwich Maddison has made 53 appearances for their first team. Overall he has scored 16 and assisted 13 for the Canaries.

Most of those goals and assist came in 49 matches last season. Maddison scored 14 and assisted eight for Norwich in 2017-18.

Leicester & Everton

In recent weeks both Leicester and Everton have been linked with Norwich’s Maddison.

Leicester are looking for new recruits as Riyad Mahrez prepares to join Man City this off-season.

As for Everton, the Toffees are also looking to bring in more creative players this summer as Wayne Rooney seems MLS bound.

Southampton bid accepted

Yet the big news in the Sun on Sunday is that Southampton have jumped to the front of the Maddison queue.

Crucially, Southampton have reportedly had an offer for Maddison accepted by Norwich. The Sun report:

SunSport can reveal Saints have had a £20million-plus offer accepted by the Canaries for the 21-year-old who romped last year’s Player of the Year award.

Sources close to the Carrow Road club say Saints boss Mark Hughes has been given permission to talk to the youngster after meeting the Championship club’s valuation for their star midfielder.

Could Leicester or Everton still sign Maddison? It’s possible, however these sides will need to submit their proposals as soon as possible.

The Sun believe that Maddison could replace Sofiane Boufal in the Southampton squad.

Boufal is being tipped with a move to Marseille or Nice this summer.
