Southampton vs Man United

Southampton and Manchester United are set to go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon.

At first glance, a United victory would, on a season-to-season basis, be widely predicted.

However, the Red Devils have endured a patchy start to the campaign, which has seen them fall to defeat in three of their eight league outings.

As for Southampton, they began the weekend sitting 5th in the Premier League table, amid a solid run of form which has seen them go seven games unbeaten.

Solskjaer on January window

Manchester United had a pretty busy 2020/21 summer transfer window, as all of Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri made the move to Old Trafford.

The Reds remain by no means the finished article, though, with the addition of a top-class centre-back and experienced right-winger no doubt on the wish-list of the club’s fans.

However, it doesn’t sound as though the United faithful should get their hopes up too much when it comes to the winter window.

This is because, speaking ahead of his side’s meeting with Southampton, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this weekend revealed that he doesn’t predict much movement on the red half of Manchester during the upcoming window:

“It’s hard to predict what the financial situation is, if teams need to sell or if they have got money to buy. I don’t predict a lot of ins and outs, to be fair.

“The world, financially, and football world has changed as well, it depends the injury situations are at teams. I feel very happy with my squad, we’re getting stronger. I still have issues every week when we only have an 18-man squad: who do I leave out? I feel we’re in a good position.”
