Swansea & West Ham
It’s set to be a long season for Swansea and West Ham.
Swansea have been in the bottom three for the past three Christmases in a row.
This year however they are rock bottom of the league, without a permanent manager, while Liverpool smashed them 5-0 in midweek.
David Moyes enjoyed a mini upturn in form at West Ham a few weeks ago as the Hammers beat Chelsea and drew with Arsenal.
Yet they remain just one place and one point above the drop zone. West Ham are still knee-deep in the relegation dogfight.
Alfie Mawson to West Ham?
According to ESPN on Thursday, West Ham want to sign Swansea centre-half Alfie Mawson.
The 23-year-old is under contract at the Liberty Stadium until 2020.
Readers are told the following:
West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson, sources close to the Welsh club have told ESPN FC.
West Ham boss David Moyes has made signing a new central defender during January’s transfer window a top priority and has identified Mawson as his top target.
West Ham are prepared to pay a fee in excess of £20m plus add-ons to persuade Swansea to cash-in on the former Brentford and Wycombe defender.
Swansea fans will likely be furious if Mawson leaves the club in the January transfer window.
Many would see that as the club raising it’s hands that they’ll go down this season.
Mawson has played all 20 Premier League matches for Swansea this season. He’s undoubtedly the best defender at the club.
Of course, Swansea sold their two best players in the summer. Fernando Llorente joined Tottenham while Glyfi Sigurdsson moved to Everton.
