Arsenal & Malcom
As Alexis Sanchez prepares to leave the Emirates Stadium, one of the players tipped to join Arsenal in January is Malcom.
Malcom has been in great form for Bordeaux this season.
The former Corinthians winger has seven goals and five assists in 17 Ligue 1 matches.
Over the weekend reports out of France, and via Malcom’s inner circle, all signalled that the Brazilian is Arsenal bound.
There have even been suggestions the Gunners could pay £40 million for the Brazilian.
Bordeaux deny Malcom talks exist
But Bordeaux have served Arsenal a curveball in their hopes to sign Malcom.
Leading French daily L’Equipe have published fresh quotes from Bordeaux president Stephane Martin on Tuesday.
He’s flatly denying that Arsenal are even in talks with his club about Malcom. And moreover, even if talks were happening, Malcom is going nowhere:
Things are clear with his agents. We did not sign him to an extension and tie him to something, to let him go this winter.
We have never had a discussion with Arsenal. From our point of view, it is nothing but hot air.
They can always try, but they will struggle to take him from us.
For the record, Malcom is under contract until 2021.
Arsenal fans may hope that Stephane Martin’s final sentence means this is all a game of brinkmanship.
If Bordeaux are to lose Malcom, then it’s surely incumbent on them to haggle the best deal for their star player.
Troyes 0 – Bordeaux 1
Bordeaux picked up a big three points in Ligue 1 over the weekend.
Gaetan Laborde scored the only goal of the game from a brilliant assist from Malcom.
