Serge Aurier’s PSG move is stalled as Tottenham plan to sell four players

Serge Aurier & Tottenham

Many Tottenham fans can’t seem to understand why Mauricio Pochettino is targetting Serge Aurier.

25-year-old Aurier may be a decent full-back, but his a litany of off-the-field problems.

His rap-sheet includes charges of homophobia and assault.

In an offensive video, Aurier infamously took the mickey out of his then coach (Laurent Blanc) and star striker (Zlatan Ibrahimovic) on Periscope.

Moreover, Aurier cannot legally enter the UK right now. The ban was enforced after the PSG defender was convicted of assaulting a police officer.

The Ivorian right back missed PSG’s match at Arsenal in October for this very reason.

Spurs deal stalls

On Tuesday afternoon, the Times have posted a short update on the Aurier to Tottenham deal.

The transfer window, of course, shuts on August 31.

With time running out in the window, Tottenham remain unable to sign Aurier for legal reasons. Readers are told:

Tottenham Hotspur appear the favourites to sign Serge Aurier if the Paris Saint-Germain right back is able to quash his conviction for assaulting a police officer outside a Paris nightclub, which would deny him entry to the UK.

Aurier appealed this month against his assault conviction, which relates to an incident in May 2016, and is awaiting a decision.

Will the decision arrive before the window slams shut?

Tottenham’s Aurier discount

The Times also report that Tottenham have bargained down PSG in their asking fee.

PSG wanted Spurs to talk £27 million for Aurier, however Daniel Levy talked them into settling for £23 million instead.

Spurs have also prepared a five year contract for the defender.

Spurs to sell

Tottenham announced the signing of Davinson Sanchez last week, and aside from Aurier they are also closing in on Juan Foyth.

Those three signings could be balanced out by a few sales. The Times report:

Tottenham expect to offload four players and Georges-Kévin N’Koudou, one of them, could move to Hellas Verona, the Italian club.

Crystal Palace hope to persuade Kevin Wimmer to join the club after the Tottenham defender went cold on a move to West Bromwich Albion, who earmarked him to play at centre and left back.

It’s unclear which two other players could be sold by Tottenham.
