Man United & Renato Sanches
Twelve months later, those rumours have been revived after Sanches struggled to establish himself at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern paid €35 million for 19-year-old Sanches, who was seemingly signed to be a long term replacement for Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. That’s why Bayern locked him down to a five year deal.
Last season at Bayern, Sanches only made six Bundesliga starts for Munich, he only played in 17 league matches in total, while he failed to contribute a single goal or assist.
The Portuguese teenager also only made six Champions League appearances, and two appearances in the German Cup.
With such little game time, it’s no surprise to seem rumours linking Sanches with a possible summer switch.
What’s the story?
According to the Sun, who source their information from German news outlet Kicker, Man United have been told they can sign Sanches for £23 million.
The Sun believe Bayern have “slashed” the fee down from £30.5 million.
Carlo Ancelotti could be looking to get some funds in the Bayern kitty after the club recently broke their club transfer record signing Corentin Tolisso from Lyon.
So will United make a move? Having been linked with Ivan Perisic previously in the window, it seems like Jose Mourinho is looking for creative left-footed talent, and Sanches could fit that bill.
