Could Romelu Lukaku stay at Everton?

In the final weeks of 2015/2016, it looked inevitable that Romelu Lukaku would leave Everton this summer.

The final games under Roberto Martinez saw Everton struggle but much has changed at Goodison Park with new owners, eager to pump in money, and a new manager in former Southampton coach Ronald Koeman.

Lukaku looked disinterested and has spoken of his desire to play Champions League football.

Mino Raiola, an agent in demand

As it stands, four of the likeliest biggest transfers which could take place this summer will involve agent Mino Raiola who represents Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

After scoring two goals for Belgium against Republic of Ireland on Saturday, Lukaku was asked about his summer plans and told Belgian newspaper Sportwereld: “Call my agent Mino Raiola. He will tell you everything.”

As a result, Sportwereld spoke to Raiola, and he has kept all options open: “If he leaves, it’s has to be a good deal for all parties involved… Everton don’t need money anymore. Rom wants to play for a club that can win trophies. Something’s changed at Everton: there’s a new project.”

Raiola rules out Italy

Raiola also confirmed that if Lukaku does leave Everton, there are no options available in Italy.

The agent said: “Romelu certainly has the qualities to play in Italy. But as the Italian landscape currently looks, there is no team that can afford Romelu. He is too expensive for Serie A. Unless new Chinese investors come naturally.”

Raiola added: “Only a global club can pay him. The top clubs in England, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain… And of course, Bayern Munich.”

With Everton demanding a massive fee for Lukaku and only the biggest clubs in position to buy him, it could be a difficult summer for the Belgian.
