The day after the Sun linked Liverpool with another spending spree at St Mary’s, the Express have flipping the script claiming that Southampton are targetting a Liverpool star.

According to the tabloid, Claude Puel is considering a move for out of favour Reds forward Daniel Sturridge.

The England international has been forced to watch most of Liverpool’s season from the sidelines, as Jurgen Klopp has opted to have Roberto Firmino lead his line instead of the former Man City and Chelsea centre-forward.

Details of the interest in Sturridge

The Express believe that Southampton could make a move in the upcoming transfer window:

Southampton want to take Liverpool misfit Daniel Sturridge on loan in January with a view to a possible £25 million summer move.

Saints have been monitoring Sturridge’s situation for some time, and are ready to table a loan offer in the mid season transfer window, with a view to a permanent summer deal.

At the same time that the Express tell their story, former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that Sturridge is going nowhere.

He wrote in a column for the Liverpool Echo: “There is no way Liverpool can devalue their squad until the end of the season in my eyes.”
