Rodrigo tipped to depart Leeds after just one season

Rodrigo tipped to depart Leeds after just one season

Surprise speculation stemming from the Spanish media this weekend has pointed towards a potential summer exit from Leeds United for Rodrigo.

Leeds stint

Spanish hitman Rodrigo of course only made the move to Elland Road last summer, departing his home country from Valencia, for a club-record fee.

To this point, the 30-year-old’s spell in England has proven somewhat hit and miss, with Rodrigo having managed to find the net on just 3 occasions in the Premier League.

Such struggles have come amid a combination of fitness woes, and the fine form of Patrick Bamford.

Despite his lack of production in front of goal to date, though, Rodrigo has nevertheless endeared himself to the Whites faithful, courtesy of the kind of stellar work rate and never say die attitude which has become synonymous with Marcelo Bielsa-led outfits.

In turn, when fully fit and firing, the Spaniard could yet prove himself to be a fine signing.

La Liga return?

As outlined above, however, if the latest word doing the rounds in his home country is to be believed, then Leeds’ supporters may never be handed the chance to see their record addition perform to his best abilities.

This comes amid claims that the hitman is already eyeing up an Elland Road exit.

As per a report from Fichajes, Rodrigo is ‘not comfortable living in England’.

It is suggested that the former Valencia man has simply not settled, having never been keen on the idea of departing La Liga last summer in the first place.

His likely omission from Spain’s squad for the European Championships also represents a hammer blow for Rodrigo, who has seen his usual spot as La Roja’s attacking spearhead filled by Alvaro Morata over recent months.

In turn, a return to La Liga has been touted, with a pair of clubs, in the form of Real Betis and Sevilla, ready to swoop come the end of the season.
