Reports Leverkusen are set to accept Chelsea’s €100m Kai Havertz bid labelled ‘nonsense’ by club’s sporting director

Havertz linked with Chelsea

Kai Havertz, who has just under two years left on his current contract with Bayer Leverkusen, has been linked with a move to Chelsea for some time now.

A report from the Telegraph last week, meanwhile, suggested that the Londoners had taken a big step forward in their pursuit of the German.

It was claimed that personal terms had been agreed on a five-year deal for Havertz, who scored 12 and assisted six in 30 Bundesliga outings this past season, to join Chelsea.

The one stumbling block in a transfer actually coming to fruition, however, came in the form of an agreement on the appropriate fee.

The Telegraph’s report suggested that Leverkusen are demanding a fee in excess of €90 million for their star man.

However, Chelsea, at the time, were only believed to have tabled an offer of around €20 million less than that.

Chelsea & Leverkusen reportedly agree Havertz fee

In the days since, though, the Blues appear to have stepped up their pursuit of the German international.

As we covered on Sunday, the reliable Fabrizio Romano revealed that Chelsea had submitted another offer for Havertz, with an update expected imminently.

Now, on Monday, this update has been forthcoming, and it seems like great news for the Londoners.

As reported on Romano’s official Twitter account, Havertz’s move to Chelsea is just ‘one step away’ from completion, with a total agreement expected to be reached in the coming hours.

It is added that Chelsea’s latest bid, which totals €100 million, will be accepted.

However, though Romano is generally regarded as a highly reliable source, Leverkusen’s managing director, Rudi Voller, has since been quick to shut down the Italian’s claims, stating:

“This is nonsense.”
