Real Madrid are set to sign AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports.

Tchouameni has been linked with most of the top clubs in Europe over the last six months, and it did look as though it was Spanish giants Real Madrid who were leading the race for the defensive midfielder.

However, reports stemming from Spain earlier this month claimed that Real Madrid had been put off by Monaco’s £60m asking price for Aurelien Tchouameni, leaving Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to scrap for his signature.

Now though, after Real Madrid lost out on Kylian Mbappe to state-owned PSG, Florentino Perez and co. look to be keen to make a statement in the transfer market.

Reports emerging from France claim that Real Madrid will sign Aurelien Tchouameni for a staggering €80m plus bonuses:

Despite his tender years, the youngster now has over 80 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt, and has quickly become one of the division’s rising stars.

He is a very defensively sound player whose main focus is disrupting attacks and winning the ball back.

This was demonstrated well in 2020/21, when Tchouameni ranked joint-first for most tackles and interceptions made in Ligue 1.

The midfielder’s recent form would also see him called up to the France national team for the first time in his career at the back end of 2021.

And in 2021/22, Tchouameni once again demonstrated his defensive dominance, ranking 1st in Ligue 1 for the most tackles and interceptions made with 211.
