Belief that Sami Khedira’s future at Real Madrid is coming to a close is fuelled by the front page of Spanish paper Marca on Wednesday, as the latest transfer target for Los Blancos is revealed.
According to the glossy splash, Cruzeiro’s defensive midfielder Lucas Silva is the player Real hope can replace Khedira at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Lucas Silva, 21, is tipped by Marca as being ready to break into the Brazilian senior squad any time soon after the youngster impressed at the Toulon Tournament in France last summer.
Despite his young age, Lucas Silva has already played almost 70 matches for Cruzeiro, however whether he is capable to stepping into one of the best teams in world football remains a big ask.
Nevertheless, Marca note that Lucas Silva could replace Khedira, with the German World Cup winner being chasing by the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
Khedira’s future at the Bernabeu has been the subject of discussion for months now, with the German’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
Khedira has still given no indication whether he is staying or leaving when his contract expires in June, while many are reporting that the midfielder is looking for a pay day from the next contract he signs. Chelsea and Arsenal wait in the wings.
