Man City 3 – Newcastle 1
Perhaps the biggest shock was that Newcastle scored on Saturday.
Jacob Murphy gave Man City a moment’s pause in the Premier League this weekend when he halved the deficit at the Etihad Stadium with 12 minutes remaining the game.
But there was no great Newcastle comeback as Man City returned to winning ways after the 4-3 Liverpool defeat.
Sergio Aguero starred for Pep Guardiola’s as the Argentine scored his first Premier League hat-trick of the season.
His first was a faint header from a Kevin De Bruyne cross. His second came from the penalty spot.
Aguero’s third came after amazing work from Leroy Sane.
Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle talks revealed
It’s obviously been a rough few months for Newcastle fans.
Having won promotion from the Championship last season, the Magpies have failed to significant invest in their current squad.
At the same time, last week saw a dramatic set of updates in Amanda Staveley’s possible takeover at St James’ Park.
Mike Ashley accused Staveley of wasting his time, while Staveley hit back in the press confirming she was indeed serious about buying the Toon.
While all this rumbles on, no new signings are arriving on Tyneside.

Yet, the Sunday Times do have a brilliant update for Newcastle fans this weekend. Rafa Benitez has opened talks with the club about agreeing a new deal:
Benitez has less than 18 months remaining on his current £6 million-a-year deal and there has been repeated speculation about his future.
However Benitez has been given assurances he will be allowed to sign three players this month, including his first choice striker, and talks about committing himself to the future are expected to follow.
When could Benitez sign a new deal?
How long will that deal last for?
And who are the three players Newcastle are hoping to sign this January?
All those questions remain unanswered in the Times’ article, but at least it seems that newcastle are beginning to plan for the future.
