Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove break club transfer record on new signing

Propper football man

Newly promoted Brighton & Hove have broken their transfer record with Monday’s signing of Davy Propper.

The Dutch international signs from PSV for a fee of around £10m, smashing the club’s previous transfer record.

25-year-old Propper is Chris Hughton’s eighth acquisition of the window, joining the likes of Chelsea’s Izzy Brown (loan), goalkeeper Mathew Ryan and Markus Suttner.

The midfielder has scored more than 40 goals from midfield and has experience in the Champions League.

“He’s a strong competitor as a central midfielder and will complement our existing midfield players, and he is also a really good age at 25; we are absolutely delighted to welcome him to the club,” Hughton said of his new player.

Tough start

Brighton begin life in the Premier League with a difficult opening fixture against Manchester City on Saturday at the Amex.

Following that, the Seagulls have a kinder run which sees them face Leicester, Watford, West Brom, Bournemouth and Newcastle.
