Out-of-favour defender tipped as makeweight in Barcelona’s swoop for Ferran Torres

Out-of-favour defender tipped as makeweight in Barcelona’s swoop for Ferran Torres

Word stemming from the Spanish media over the last 24 hours has pointed towards a surprise player inclusion in Barcelona’s swoop for Manchester City star Ferran Torres.

The name of Spanish international Torres has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines over the course of the last week.

This comes on the back of reports rapidly spreading across the attacker’s home country that La Liga giants Barcelona have set their sights firmly on a January swoop for Torres.

New boss Xavi Hernandez is known to be on the lookout for reinforcements to his frontline ahead of the opening of the winter window, owing to the enforced long-term absences of Martin Braithwaite and Sergio Aguero.

Nevertheless, it came as something of a surprise when, first, Mundo Deportivo revealed that Torres had informed Man City of his deep desire to secure a move to the Camp Nou, a prospect subsequently green-lighted by Pep Guardiola.

Not only that, but Marca soon followed up with a similar report of their own, which went as far as to suggest that the personal terms of a contract had been agreed upon between club and player.

Dest to the Etihad?

And now, as outlined above, on Thursday, a fresh insight into the situation has been forthcoming.

This time, though, it is the terms of a potential agreement between Barca and City which have come under the microscope. More specifically, which of the former’s stars could be included in an exchange of sorts for Torres.

The player tipped as a makeweight? Sergino Dest.

As per a report from Marca, citing El Nacional, Xavi would be ready to sanction the inclusion of the American defender in any swoop for City’s sidelined wide-man.

This comes with Dest understood to be out-of-favour with the new man in the hotseat in Catalunya.

Not only that, but Pep Guardiola is also said to be interested in the prospect of coaching Dest, in a potential win-win for both parties.
