Premier League outfit Newcastle United have made an offer for Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet, according to Italian outlet Il Secolo XIX, via Calciomercato.
Praet, a technically-gifted 23-year-old midfielder, made the surprise move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris from Anderlecht last summer, despite being heavily linked with some of Europe’s top clubs.
Though he failed to hold down a consistent starting spot under Samp boss Marco Giampaolo (19 Serie A starts), Praet did regularly display the guile and technical ability which had seen him labelled one of Anderlecht’s most promising talents of the past decade.
And, as per the aforementioned reports emanating from Italy today, Praet’s immense potential has not been forgotten, with Newcastle United having joined some of La Liga’s biggest sides in expressing an interest in the Bulcerchiati man.
It is even claimed that Rafael Benitez’s side have lodged an official offer for the Belgian international, who is thought to have a price-tag of around £13 million.
The Magpies are in desperate need of midfield additions over the coming weeks, with club captain Jonjo Shelvey having been sent off in their opening day Premier League loss at home to Tottenham, and fellow midfielders Jack Colback and Henri Saivet both expected to depart St James’ before the close of the transfer window.
