Rafa Benitez

Newcastle target a West Ham striker

Newcastle & West Ham

The Sun on Sunday have announced a possible summer deal between Newcastle and West Ham.

West Ham are bottom of the infant Premier League table having conceded four goals at Man United and three goals at Southampton.

As for Newcastle, they take on Huddersfield on Sunday having lost 2-0 to Tottenham last weekend.

According to the Sun, the Magpies are looking to bring Andy Carroll back to St James’ Park.

Andy Carroll is back

England international striker Andy Carroll returned to West Ham training last week.

However, how long will it be before Carroll gets injured again?

Unplayable when he’s on form, Carroll seems unable to maintain a long run of good health, while West Ham have signed Javier Hernandez this summer from Bayer Leverkusen.

So could the striker head back to Newcastle? The Sun report the following:

Carroll, 28, cost (West Ham_ £15million in 2013 but has started just 52 league games. He has hit 23 Prem goals for the Hammers.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez is sizing up a deal to bring home the 6ft 4in hitman — who started his career at Newcastle before a disastrous move to Liverpool in 2011.

Unhelpfully, the Sun fail to state how much West Ham would demand for their centre-forward.

Do Newcastle have the money and the will to pull off the deal?

Newcastle’s summer signings

Last week Newcastle announced that Spanish striker Joselu has joined from Stoke.

Newcastle have already brought in Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo this summer, with Borussia Dortmund Mikel Merino joining on loan.
