Newcastle have been working hard during this January transfer window to give themselves the best possible chance of avoiding the dreaded drop to The Championship.

With Premier League survival worth so much this season, you can understand why the Toon have already splashed the cash on Andros Townsend and Jonjo Shelvey.

On Sunday morning, reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio confirms that Newcastle are also set to bring in a powerful striker that could well bag a few important goals for Steve McClaren’s side.

Seydou Doumbia will arrive on loan from Roma until the end of the season and gives Newcastle another option in attack.

The powerful 28-year-old established himself as a real goal scorer at CSKA Moscow but struggled for playing time at Roma since joining for just over 14 million euros at the end of the 2014 winter transfer window.

Doumbia was loaned back to CSKA Moscow for the first half of the 2015/2016 season and Newcastle will have an option to buy the Ivory Coast hitman at the end of this season.
